Lend us your voices (and be an internet star)

Over a year ago, we decided it would be interesting to make audio recordings of our translation of the Tao Te Ching and record short videos to accompany them.

Our goal was to have a different person read each of the 81 chapters. As you can see from our YouTube Channel, we stalled pathetically after two videos. Now that we’ve finished our text translation, we’re ready to get going again.

For this, we require your voice. We would love to have you scan through our translations, find one you like and send us a recording of you reading it aloud. It doesn’t have to be polished. It doesn’t have to be perfect. All we are really looking for in a good reading is that the voice doesn’t overshadow the words by being excessively hokey or unintelligible. Other than that vague restriction, you are free to do what you like. Once we have the sound file, we will record a video and post it.

We would love to collect a fairly diverse group of voices, so if you have a unique voice or accent, or know someone who does and might be interested, please contribute. We would also love to have several age groups represented, so if your toddler or grandparent is interested in contributing, that would be fantastic.

As for the specifics, instructions and a list of all of the translations, as well as which of them have already been spoken for can be found: here. We don’t need them to come in any particular order, so feel free to choose any chapter that speaks to you.

In the past, we have used voices anonymously. If, however, you wish to be given credit, we are more than happy to mention you and link to your web-site or blog.

Below are the two videos we have completed. Feel free to watch them if you’re unsure of what we’re asking for:
